Monthly Update? What's that?!?!

I = suck. If only I could be a little more incompetent, people might not expect me to do so much. Of course, you would think from all the grief I get, that I am, in fact, completely incompetent. Or, maybe I would just think that.

Anyway, we haven't uploaded pictures since January 28 and haven't taken a picture since February 10. Yeah, that was like a long time ago.

So, here is a quick catch-up. With a bunch of pictures.

Hazel's verbal skills are improving every day. She talks more frequently and more clearly. It is great. Two is a fun age. I like the crazy talking and the "my turn!" and whatnot. Plus, Hazel is old enough to do stuff but still young enough to be restrained in a stroller. It is a bit tiring for the mama, but maybe that is just because I try and get in at least two hours of studying every night. Oh, and I have a job. And a two-year-old. And a Geoff...

She is also getting better at doing stuff. Like puzzles and reading books. And recognizing letters everywhere. She has also been very into coloring and playing with her doll house. And probably other stuff that I would think of if I wasn't exhausted.

Hazel made another trip to visit Baby Alex and co. in Texas. The weather was great and they watched Mickey Mouse and went to the zoo. Maybe other stuff, I don't know. I went to Portland and it was fabulous. I didn't watch Mickey Mouse or go to the zoo.

Making a snow angel. This was a massive snowstorm on....January.....28th? I just know that I got let out of work early, it took forever to get home and Geoff was laid up on the comp so I had to shovel everything. It has been a bad winter for snow and shoveling.
Hazel also made a "snow penguin". I don't know what made it a penguin. Or why the penguin wore a hat.
Playing in the box with daddy.

Sometimes we make her clean. She had to put on an apron to clean. Her choice, I am fine in her cleaning in whatever. By the time she gets really good at cleaning, she probably won't want to do it anymore.
Hazel likes to play on the computer. Mostly this involves banging on the keyboard and moving the mouse. And YouTube. She loves watching videos. Especially the Fairy Alphabet, from an old Sesame Street. And the Alligator King, and Ladybug Picnic, and so on and so forth.
The Internet. It is hypnotizing.
Notice that Hazel is now in a different outfit. They watch YouTube A LOT.
Cute baby in a hat. I love her in hats.
Hazel likes dogs a lot. Real or stuffed. She fashioned a leash out of her monkey backpack tail to use for her stuffed dog.
Most of all, Hazel loves her Nacho dog. Nacho is Hazel's dog. Triscuit is mommy's dog. Daddy doesn't get a dog. "sorry dad"

And that is the past month or so. Oh, and then our fridge died today. Or probably last night because the food was starting to thaw. But, I called a local appliance store (Famous Appliance) and they were able to deliver us a new fridge within an hour. Woo!!

21 Months!!

Yeah, it has been a while since we had a monthly update but oh, what a month it has been. Hazel has now moved to a "big girl" aka toddler bed. This is the reason she had to get a new bed.
The new bed which she does not feel the need to nap in... She will go to bed at night, but naps are another deal all together. She had a nap today, so hopefully this whole no-nap thing will go away.

This has also been the month of "no way". I must hear "no way" one hundred times a day. Everything is met with, "no way", really more of a "no wee". Even if she is agreement, she will still no way me and then say 'yeah'.

Oh, and she says 'shut up' now. Awesome. She just started chanting "shut up, shut up, shut up" one day and seeing that it causes a reaction (because, come on, the "shut up, shut up, shut up" is kind of funny), she has continued on with the chanting. She is, in fact, this minute shouting "shut up" at our skull. It lights up with noise and apparently, especially with "shut up".

Hazel has also recently discovered the moon. We got out of the car one night and she started shrieking (joyfully) "The Moon! Hooray, The Moon!!" We always look for the moon, day and night. We sing songs about the moon.

We are also painting our house. It is far more difficult and time-consuming than we had originally anticipated. Plus, the weather had completely not cooperated. It has rained practically every weekend since we started (like today). My mom was nice enough to come down and take care of Hazel while Geoff worked on the house.

Geoff was kind of going crazy with the painting...

And since it is now Halloween month, I made Hazel this smashing dress. Frankly, I don't love it but it is okay. The pattern was kind of weird, and it was hard to match up the stripes and I was not as patient as I could have been. And I made a matching dress for the baby. And a hat for me. That I will probably never wear.

I have been on a sewing kick. You can see the pink skull dress that I made in the elephant pictures. It was made at the same time as the reversible spider/red flower dress. I hope I still have enough in me to get through Halloween costumes.

When Zoe Jane was one-ish, Auntie Jenni and Meadow gave her this awesome elephant. We even sewed a hat and saddle for it. Well Zoe Jane is old now, and too big for the elephant. So she gave it to her cousin Hazel. Hazel LOVES the elephant. Here are a couple of pictures of Hazel and the elephant.

Finally, a picture of Hazel's scared face. Oh, it is going to be a fantastic Halloween!

19 Months!

The months are speeding by, our little piranha is 19 months old! She is learning new words and signs everyday. She adds them without even thinking about them. One day she is just grunting and the next she is asking for beans for dinner and a bib to wear. She will even say peoples' names. Except for Jenni's because she is mean like that. Or, for example, she just came up to me to point out the turtles on her jammies. It is like she actually knows things, instead of just parroting back what we ask her to say.

On the other hand, she is quite the little mimic these days. She saw Geoff put tissue up his nose when he had a bloody nose and now she constantly wants tissue in her nose. When the mama has a ponytail, Hazel wants a ponytail. Until she remember that she hates things in her hair. This cycle can continue for many rounds. At least until the mama gets tired of putting ponytails in every 2 minutes. Sometimes this power works for good and she will copy sweeping or putting things away. But she prefers to copy things that are less productive.

She also REALLY likes peek-a-boo these days. She will stop what she is doing to peek-a-boo. Or to wave at kids. Let's see what else does Hazel like... candy, dogs, books, brushing her teeth, Signing Time, walks, carrots, juice, dolls, stuffed animals, blankets, blocks (sometimes she likes blocks in her pants), pockets, changing outfits, and the list goes on and on.

We went swimming at Tutu's house on Sunday. This is a favorite family activity. The water-loving nature of Hazel has been well-documented. We took boogie boards this time. It made for some great activities. We would have Hazel sit, lie or attempt to stand on the board and then swing it around. Good times. She loved it, even when she got dunked. Especially when she got dunked. It was a perfect day for swimming. Not too hot or cold, not too sunny or cloudy. Hazel actually stayed out in the pool for close to an hour. And then she wanted to go have a bath and have Tutu rub her feet.

Today, we went on a trip to the Utah Museum of Fine Art with Jenni and Christie and Jordan. Hazel picked her own outfit and her own shoes. And packed her own bag. And what would you think a girl would need to pack to go to the UMFA? Why clogs, of course. Authentic Dutch clogs.
In the middle of our visit to the musuem, Hazel decides she needs to change shoes. Because, if you bring two pairs of shoes, you might as well wear both of them. Clogs on hardwood floors are loud. They make cowgirl boots sound like walking on cushions of air. So instead of trying to walk like a normal person, Hazel had to jump in her clogs. This was even louder. You would not think 22 pounds could make such noise. Wooden clogs on wooden floors in big open areas make for very, very loud noises. Anyway, this is the outfit she chose. The clogs are in the Lego backpack.
